James Steffens
Chief of Police
Chief Steffens began his law enforcement career with the Clearwater Police Department in 1988. During his time with Clearwater, he specialized as a Community Policing Officer, Burglary/Grand Theft Detective and a Robbery/ Homicide Detective before being promoted to Sergeant in 1997. As a Sergeant, Chief Steffens supervised different squads in the patrol division, and was assigned as the Personnel & Training Supervisor responsible for recruitment/hiring and sworn departmental training. Chief Steffens was promoted to Lieutenant in 2001, where he spent time managing the Special Operations Section and served as the SWAT Team Commander. Chief Steffens retired from the Clearwater Police Department in January 2009, and was hired as a Lieutenant with the New Port Richey Police Department in June 2011. Chief Steffens began acting as the head of the agency in October 2011, and was appointed as Chief of Police in December 2011.

Matthew Berry
Lieutenant Commander of Administration
Lieutenant Berry joined the New Port Richey Police Department in 1997. Since then, he has served his community in several different positions, including Patrolman, Community Oriented Policing (COP) Officer, Corporal, and Lieutenant. Lieutenant Berry is responsible for the administrative functions of the Police Department such as the budget and personnel, and is also responsible for the civilian employees working in the Communications and Records Division and Code Enforcement Division.
